Jack and Laurel
OUR LOVE STORY

Laurel and Jack’s love story began in February 2022 at the University of Illinois. Their first date took them to a charming pub in Urbana, followed by an evening of live music. The following week brought an unexpected challenge when Laurel discovered she had lice from working with kids. Nervous about sharing this news, she sought advice from her dad, who encouraged her to be honest and go on their second date. Trusting his wisdom, Laurel informed Jack, who took it all in stride and didn’t have lice. Their second date marked the beginning of a special connection. After a year of navigating a long-distance relationship between Champaign and Chicago, Laurel and Jack have relocated to Providence, RI. Laurel is pursuing a PhD in Slavic Studies at Brown University, while Jack is a Deloitte consultant.
During a vacation to his family's cottage on Lake Bellaire in Michigan this summer, Jack surprised Laurel with a heartfelt proposal. Originally planning a different approach, Jack had to adapt when Laurel caught on to subtle hints from family members. He took her out on a jet ski to a tranquil spot in the lake, where baby loons and loons often gather. There, he asked her to look at a boat ramp sign, which revealed a poster that read, “Will you marry me, Laurel?” Overwhelmed with joy, Laurel screamed, “Yes!” as a nearby fisherman cheered with a jubilant, “Carpe Diem!” Their engagement symbolizes their commitment to seize each day together and cherish every moment for the rest of their lives, filled with gratitude for the serendipitous moments that brought them together and excitement for the future.
